Gain

Refers to the degree of signal amplification.

Gap

The space between the magnet and the pole piece in a speaker's motor assembly that houses the voice coil.

Generator

A rotating machine that produces DC electricity. Also an electronic device used for converting DC voltage into AC of a given frequency and wave shape.

Glass Sensor

A device designed to detect the sound of breaking glass or metal-to-glass contact, thus triggering a security system. Also called Sound Sensors, Glass Breakage Sensors, or Sound Discriminators.

Golden Ratio

The ratio of depth, width, and height based on the Greek Golden Rectangle. Often applied to speaker boxes or listening room design. The Ratio: W = 1.0, Depth = 0.618W, Height = 1.618W. Graphic Equalizer

A multi-band variable equalizer using slide controls as the amplitude adjustable elements. Named for the positions of the sliders "graphically" illustrating the resulting frequency response of the equalizer. Only found on active (amplified) designs. Center frequency and bandwidth are fixed for each band.

Grill Driver

A barrier meant to prevent damage to the Driver that it covers, or that creates a more attractive visual appeal.

Ground

The term given to anything having an electrical potential of zero. Most modern vehicles are designed around a negative ground system, with the metal frame being the vehicle's ground.

Ground Loop

The term given to the condition that occurs when a voltage potential exists between two separate ground points.
