TFT

Thin Film Transistor - Active Matrix Display - A specific type of LCD display in which one to four transistors control each pixel. This technique offers the best resolution of all LCD, flat panel display types.

THD

Total Harmonic Distortion - A component specification which describes its ability to accurately reproduce a signal. Although lower numbers are considered to be better, the human ear typically cannot detect THD ratings below 2% or 3%.

Theile-Small Parameters

A series of driver measurements developed by A.N. Thiele and R.H. Small that models how a speaker will work with an enclosure.

Thermalum Woofer Cones

Are composed of a polypropylene base with a bonded Nickel layer. This cone is extremely durable making it the ideal chose for those who like to listen to their music loud with fatigue.

Thiele AN

A pioneer in studying speaker/enclosure relationships. Along with R.H. Small, defined what is currently accepted as the basis for enclosure design.

Titanium

A strong, lightweight metal, often used in high-stress situations, e.g., in the manufacture of space vehicles, race cars, airplanes, and medical replacements. JBL has long been a proponent of using titanium for speaker and compression horn diaphragms.

Titanium Composite

Combination of titanium and a special polymer. This material benefits from the strength and lightness of titanium as well as the damping qualities of a polymer to make tweeter diaphragms and speaker cones that are strong, lightweight, and capable of extremely accurate reproduction.

Titanium Composite-Injected Molded Curvilinear Cones

Speaker cones made from a titanium/polymer composite that are molded into a curvilinear shape and result in a strong lightweight cone that is capable of excellent bass and transient response, as well as a clear uncolored midrange.

TLH

Tri-Laminate Hybrid - A cone material using three bonded layers: an extremely light cellulose substrate for low mass, a silicone shield for weatherproofing and a special polymer film to stiffen the cone and damp out unwanted resonance's.

TOC

Table Of Contents - The digital sub code information that identifies a disc, indication the number of tracks, the starting and ending points of these tracks and the total running time of the disc. When include, CD Text information is stored in the TOC.

Toroidal Coil

An inductor or transformer whose core consists of a concentrically wound ribbon of magnetic material. Also used to filter noise on a DC supply line.

Trace

The path of conductive material that conveys voltage or current from one point to another on a printed circuit board. Traces add resistance to the circuit .

Transceiver

A combination radio transmitter/receiver usually installed in a single housing and sharing some components.

Transducer

Any device which converts energy from one form to another, i.e., electrical to acoustic or vice-versa. Loudspeakers and microphones are two types of transducers.

Transformer

An electrical device that can be used to provide circuitry isolation, signal coupling, impedance matching, or voltage step-up.

Transients

A non-repeating sound (such as percussion in music) or an abrupt change of voltage. How a speaker handles transients is a good indicator of its performance .

Transistor

An active (commonly three terminal) solid-state device in which a larger output current is obtained by small changes in the input current.

Tuned Port Bass Enclosure

A loudspeaker design by which bass energy generated behind the woofer is released through a vent that is precisely matched to the size and configuration of the enclosure and driver. This type of enclosure extends low-frequency response; increases efficiency of the system, reduces distortion, and improves the power handling of the loudspeaker.

TV Control

The ability of a component to operate a TV tuner.

Tweeter

A small loudspeaker or driver meant to reproduce treble frequencies.
